Constantine Sedikides

Constantine Sedikides graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1982. He received a Master's degree in developmental psychology from Fordham University, USA, in 1984; a Master's degree in social psychology from The Ohio State University, USA, in 1986; and his Ph.D. in social psychology from The Ohio State University in 1988.

Constantine began his academic career at the University of Wisconsin--Madison, USA, as an Assistant Professor from 1988 to 1993. In 1993, he moved, as an Associate Professor, to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA, and was promoted to Full Professor in 1997. Two years later, he joined the Psychology Department, University of Southampton, England, as the Director of the Center for Research on Self and Identity.

Constantine's research interests are mainly in the area of self and identity. His current work focuses on (1) self-evaluation motives (self-enhancement, self-protection, self-improvement) motivation in cultural context, including narcissism, (2) nostalgia, and (3) authenticity. Research in these and related topics has resulted in over 350 publications as well as 14 volumes.

Constantine is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, the British Psychological Society, the Society for Experimental Social Psychology, and the Society for Personality and Social Psychology. He has received numerous honors and awards, including the Distinguished Lifetime Career Award, International Society for Self and Identity (2017), The Presidents’ Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychological Knowledge, The British Psychological Society (2012), and the Kurt Lewin Medal for Outstanding Scientific Contribution, European Association of Social Psychology (2011).
